50 Years of Excellence

Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) is a public, non-profit integrated healthcare system consisting of a 284-licensed bed acute care facility complete with a range of services. TGMC is celebrating its 50th year of service, and takes pride in being the largest community-based hospital in the tri-parish area of Terrebonne, Lafourche, and St. Mary parishes. The medical center serves as a major economic force for the community with a staff of over 1200 employees, a medical staff of over 160 registered physicians offering a variety of specialties ranging from allergist to urologist and over 150 volunteers.

The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), a member of the Louisiana Hospital Association and the American Hospital Association.

Award Winning Facility

The medical center is also a member of Premier, a consulting organization of several hundred-quality hospitals throughout the entire United States. In May of 2005, TGMC was a winner of the prestigious Premier Award for Quality in the area of Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG). This nationally-recognized award honors clinical excellence in both quality of care and operational efficiency, differentiating its winners as industry leaders that not only deliver outstanding patient care while reducing the cost of healthcare by improving resource utilization.

In November 2004, Terrebonne General Medical Center was awarded the prestigious designation of “Employer of Choice â ” by Employer of Choice, Inc. of Greensboro, North Carolina. The award recognizes an organization’s dedication to a higher level of employee continuity, workforce stability and performance, and assures customer loyalty and employee satisfaction. This is an exceptional honor since only 1% of hospitals in the nation operate at the level required for this designation.

Committed to the Community

Our mission of proving quality, cost effective services to improve the health of the community and provide access to technology in response to regional needs is evident in our commitment to remain progressive to meet the needs of our community.

Currently, TGMC is constructing an 85,000 square foot stand-alone Women’s Center that will be opened in the Winter of 2005. The $20 million expansion project will be the premier center for women’s health in Southeast Louisiana offering comprehensive quality care for women in one convenient location.

Organizational Culture

The culture of Terrebonne General Medical Center is as unique as the south Louisiana culture it is engulfed by? Laissez les bons temp rouler, meaning “let the good times toll” is a common French expression heard in south Louisiana, and for many TGMC team members, it summarizes the importance of striking the perfect balance between work and family by using rituals and traditions common to our Cajun culture. From crawfish boils and fun days under the oaks to employee service award dinners and holiday parties, TGMC recognizes our employees in a variety of ways and fosters an environment where getting paid is just one more great benefit of working at TGMC.
